Even if you are not technology specialists, the term will sound familiar to you. machine learning, that branch of artificial intelligence that allows machines learn based on data without being programmed for it. To understand its degree of progress and also its risks, I invite you to read this excellent post by Jose Luis Casal

Also from the labor perspective, projections like is of the World Economic Forum state that in 5 years the distribution of man-machine working hours is changing significantly. The “machines” gain ground to human cognitive ability and it doesn't seem like complaining or sitting idly by is an option

With arms crossed or consuming daily and content from the sofa digital that entertains but distracts our awareness of accelerated change and the certainty that someone (A recent holiday conversation) can always do our job better and/or cheaper. Everything is perhaps more fragile, ephemeral and fast than we would like but while we measure the “accelerated change” in years we will have thousands of hours to do something about it. If all this can make sense …
How is it that the vast majority of working people have not yet internalized the healthy habit of lifelong learning? ?

Learning is not just for students. Learning is an attitude and basically requires time and will. Learning begins by asking. It means taking a few seconds to ask what it means (when we doubt and Google answers us). It is achieved by listening to podcasts of 15 min. on the way to work or reading a good book a month instead of getting hooked on a mediocre series. Learning is cultivated by judiciously browsing the web and connecting, talking and learning from other people.
You learn for free about what's coming with courses like East , from the University of Helsinki on artificial intelligence, to which more than 200.000 citizens of any profession. You learn a lot by spending 10 min. diaries (=7.6 days/year) on mobile learning platforms such as Duolingo attractive, personalized, effectiveness !
Small actions train brain plasticity to prepare for the future. this little book about the Kaizen method (3 hours of reading) gives some keys to eat elephants in pieces (and lifelong learning is now a pachyderm for many)

We arrive at training and learning by motivation or need and not always by triggers “external” when our company “send us” to a course or we intuit that our chair moves. I suggest that each one explore their own activators that connect with our causes., our wishes, what matters to us, what is closest to us professionally and personally. this interesting course of a great reference in the field such as Fernando de la Rosa is an excellent starting point on the path. We have to reactivate as soon as possible part of the learning dynamics of our student stage and schedule time for learning as we do for health or leisure.
Becoming serial learners sooner rather than later seriously increases our options..

I don't ignore barriers, we know what to produce and learn at the same time (and have a family, friends, hobbies, life !) it is a difficult pairing at times and even not well seen in some organizations… but if learning new things requires extra effort and losing the 40% of our professional qualification in 3 years, as said in Davos is at least uncomfortable , hit the market unexpectedly with insights from the last century, it is more.

The environment must accompany, organizations that promote and support, managers who value and invest in their teams, help those who want, etc. More and more companies in the private and public sectors are aware of the importance of promoting learning and developing talent (like this new and interesting initiative of Ideo to promote mass and community learning) , but in personal growth responsibility, decision and action is always individual. only learn who wants.

It's frequent news, in the near future a part of our tasks will be done by most capable humans (and cheaper) and less human capabilities. Activating the habit of learning from now on, we forge our resilience, we increase our value and surf the change.

In summary, for me the issue is clear and urgent, if in our work we do not learn, we are at risk. If we do not have a learning attitude, we are at risk. Learn to earn: either we already incorporate intentional and active learning or our value languishes daily.

Let's be “Learning machines” against both “Machine learning” !

Friend John, there are still many companies and entities that are based on the "it's always been done this way". the movie monsters, S.A. I see it reflected often in everyday life.

    1. That's Salva. They are the companies that will not survive in the mid term. If we can choose, better to be in places where things are questioned and always learned
